Its no surprise that the Entertainment business has gotten the jump on getting the buzz going via social media. Content is King in the social world and several studios are doing it better than others. I really like what Sony and Paramount are doing within the integration of promotion and information with their properties in Social networks. I particularly love Sony, because they treat everyone of their properties as" King" in the social media world.
Social Media is only going to get bigger with more sites and ways to integrate your content in 2012. It will be a full time job for someone in your organization or your agency to manage.
New tools will be available for the industry to use to manage and keep your content consistent via all these social sites. The opportunity to brand social media apps or programs will be a new way have your brand sponsor an online/mobile marketing event.
The big question is do you want to spend your dollars on "information heavy" sites or "shopping mind set" sites. A strong balance of both is preferred, but many "new" online marketers are steering away from the "appeared" costly media buy where heavy shopping is done.
2012 will be a pivotal year for brands to ramp up content and programming budgets in social online marketing. Since this arena is going to grow, take the time to have your brand teams or agencies think out of the box. Online is the perfect place for your renegade teammates to fire some flames into the playing field and see if they score. Other wise you will just be part of a huge wave of noise that consumers have no stake in.
