Prequels , Sequels and Remakes
2011 was a banner year for reviving franchises and 2012 will continue the trend.
The ultimate question is "Isn't there any good idea's being created anymore?"
Q1
This year the year starts off with the second 3D rerelease of a Disney film this one being Beauty & the Beast. End of January brings the 4th installment of Underworld which will continue to pull in its processed crowd while the majority of us will be absorbed in the NFL.
February has Fox/Lucasfilms with Star Wars 3D Phantom Menace and WB has a 2nd installment of Journey to the Center of the
Earth. Marvel kicks off its banner year with Ghost Rider 2 in February also.
March brings us another Seuss project from Universal The Lorax and WB bring us
Clash of the Titians 2.
Q2
April kicks off with Universal's American Reunion, and Fox's 3D rerelease of Titanic followed by Dimensions Scary Movie 5.
May officially gives us the first Blockbuster with Marvels Avengers from Paramount and finishes with another Marvel movie franchise from Sony MIB3 for Memorial Day.
June blasts off with 2 offerings Dreamworks Madagascar 3, and a prequel to Alien from Fox called Prometheus. Paramount closes the deal with GI Joe 2.
Q3
July brings us a celebration of 3 films starting with The Amazing Spiderman a prequel from Sony/Marvel. Fox brings us the 4th installment of their successful Ice Age franchise which explodes us to WB's 7th (3rd in the series) Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises.
August brings us a new start to the Bourne Legacy franchise from Universal, and a Total Recall remake from Sony.
September gives us the years second 3D rerelease from the Disney vault Finding Nemo and finishes with Resident Evil 4 from Sony.
Q4
October has a Disney remake of Tim Burtons short Frankenweenie, a Texas Chainsaw 3D from Lionsgate, Paranormal Activity 4 from Paramount, and hopefully a Halloween 3D from Dimension.
November promises us a 50th birthday bash from Sony with Skyfall (Bond 23) , and Summit with Twilight Breaking Dawn Pt 2.
December
is wide open for WB and Peter Jackson with the continuing stories via the first segment of the Hobbit.
The Industry does its best to play fair and I recommend going with certainly one of these redo's and I think the winners are obvious.
